Poster Submission
Posters must be non-partisan and communicate a voter-mobilizing call to action through nonpartisan visuals and copy.


Who is eligible to submit entries?
All AIGA KC members. Graphic design students and educators in Kansas or Missouri are also eligible to submit a poster – whether they are a member or not. (Not a member? It’s easy to join at aiga.org/belong)

Thank you for helping AIGA Get Out the Vote(GOTV) in 2016 and beyond. Please review this introduction and submission checklist before proceeding to contribute.

Purpose
This civic engagement initiative wields the power of design to motivate the American public to register and turn out to vote in the 2016 general election, as well as local elections to come. The core of the campaign is the GOTV First Friday Poster, and members may separately submit to the national online gallery of original, nonpartisan posters generated by AIGA members for printing and public distribution. It is vital to the spirit, impact, and accessibility of this campaign that posters are nonpartisan and in window card format (portrait, 11x17 inches).

Instructions

  1. Download the .zip file containing the InDesign template for your poster.
  2. Design your poster, leaving the branded band embedded at the bottom.
  3. Provide your information (name, city, state) for design credit in the branded band where indicated. The text is set in Haptik, which is include in the .zip file.
  4. Once you’ve completed your poster, consult the checklist below to ensure your submission meets all of the requirements.
  5. Complete online submission form.
  6. Upload a thumbnail image at 900x1300px in RGB, saved as JPEG or PNG for AIGA KC submission to help track your poster during the process.
  7. Upload full size poster to link provided.
  8. Members may also upload to the national gallery overview at aiga.org/vote.

Submission checklist

    • The poster message is nonpartisan
    • Bleed is 0.125 inch
    • AIGA Get Out the Vote branded band appears at bottom of poster
    • Credit has been provided where indicated in the band
    • InDesign file and linked artwork are set to CMYK
    • Poster is 11 x 17 inches (portrait)
    • All images are 300 dpi at full size
    • All type has been converted to outline
    • Thumbnail is saved as RGB, 900x1300px(portrait) title 72 dpi: lastname_firstname_postertitle_thumbnail in jpeg or png. Maximum file size: 8 MB
    • Poster is saved as a press quality PDF without security restrictions and saved with file name formatted: lastname_firstname_postertitle.pdf

If your poster meets all of the above requirements, you are ready to submit through this entry form. After your submission is uploaded, it will be reviewed to ensure it adheres to the submission requirements. Selected posters will be displayed at the AIGA KC First Friday Poster Show on June 3.

Rights and reproduction
By submitting a poster or video, you certify that you created or have ownership of the work— including the right to distribute stock images and fonts used in your design. You retain the copyright and agree to distribute under a Creative Commons “Attribution-NoDerivs” license. You grant to AIGA the right to use accepted work for reproduction in posters for the Get Out the Vote initiative; in publications; in exhibitions; on its website; and for educational and AIGA-related noncommercial promotional purposes.

Entry Deadline
Entries are due Tuesday, May 24 at midnight to be eligible for the AIGA KC First Friday Show. Members are invited to also contribute to the national collection through November 8.

We’re opening the doors to the public on June 3 for the First Friday Get Out the Vote Poster Show in the Crossroads Arts District.

What is Get Out the Vote?
Get Out the Vote is a civic engagement initiative of AIGA. Designers across the U.S. and beyond have been activated to Get Out the Vote every four years since 2004. To see work featured in past campaigns, visit Get Out the Vote 2008 and Get Out the Vote 2012. The campaign is part of Design for Democracy, an AIGA initiative to increase civic participation through design.
