Recap: Sign Painters

We were thrilled to see over 100 smiling faces at Sign Painters, our latest event. When we first thought of the idea to screen the popular documentary, we never thought it would turn into such an amazing night celebrating Kansas City talent.

The event started with a mingling hour that included two very special guests who now call Kansas City home. Professional sign painter Ludwig Villasi gave us all an up close and personal look at tools of the trade. He entertained us with stories of his experience training in Vienna, Austria and working for JL Hudson Co., one of the largest department stories in the country. Casey Ligon, designer and lettering artist at Barkley, gave us a beautiful live chalk lettering demonstration and raffled off some of her work to a few lucky attendees. Thank you Ludwig and Casey!

After enjoying the live entertainment, we watched the movie Sign Painters on the big auditorium screen. If you missed it (or if you want to watch it again), you’re in luck. You can stream it in the comfort of your own home from iTunes, YouTube, or on their site.

We also raffled off a free subscription to Skillshare so one lucky creative can brush-up on their lettering skills (or learn something completely new!). We have several to give out this year, so look for opportunities at future events.

Stay tuned for more movie screenings in the future. Have a suggestion? Chat with us on Facebook or Twitter. We’d love to hear from you.
