Pick Posters

Pick Progress, AIGA Kansas City, and Babes Helpin’ Babes are excited to announce Pick Posters, a poster series celebrating 30 days of black design. The series will run online from Jan. 31 to March 1. For this project, AIGA KC invited more than 30 black creatives from around the world to each design a poster representing black empowerment phrases – like “Lift Every Voice” and “Melanin’ Abundant” – from the original Pick Progress project (pickprogressproject.com).

The Pick Posters project is successful due to black creatives from around the world volunteering their talents to celebrate da’ culture. While this project has consistently been a labor of love, not compensating artists and designers, especially People of Color, has been an epidemic in the creative world that needs to change. So, in conjunction with the poster series, we are launching a sponsorship and donation campaign to support these creatives. It is our attempt to walk the walk, not just talk the talk. We invite you to join us by making a financial commitment and demonstrating support for changing this systemic problem.

Join us for an in-person panel discussion and poster show event on March 2, from 6-8 p.m., at The AI Hub, 511 Delaware St., Suite 50, Kansas City, Mo. The panel event will include Kansas City black creatives and will be moderated by Sam Meier, Hallmark Trends and Innovation Studio designer, educator, and co-founder of Yup Yup Design. The panelists will discuss the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in design and design spaces. This will be followed by a poster show, where posters from the Pick Posters project will be displayed and available for bidding in a silent auction. This is a free event; however, registration is required. Sign up to reserve your spot!
